Zbruch idol

Poland, Krakow
Slavic stone idol, which was discovered in the middle of the 19th century in the Zbruch River in the territory of modern Ukraine. Currently, the original is on display at the Krakow Archaeological Museum, and a life-size copy of it is installed at the foot of the Wawel Hill. Similar copies can be found not only in Krakow, but also in Warsaw, Kyiv, Ternopil, Vilnius and other cities. Scientists believe that the Zbruch idol was created in the 10th century, although there is a version that it was a skillfully made “forgery” of the 19th century commissioned by a Polish landowner, whose estate was located near the place of discovery. Be that as it may, the sculpture is a limestone pillar about three meters high, divided into several tiers, where each is responsible for the image of gods and people.
