Sukiennice, Cloth Hall
Poland, Krakow
Cloth Rows - a building located in the center of Krakow's Rynok Square, built as a shopping arcade of the former capital of Poland.

In 1257, King Bolesław V the Shy, assigning Magdeburg rights to the city, built a double row of cloth trade establishments of stone in the middle of the market square. In 1875-1879, the cloth rows were rebuilt according to the design of the architect Tomasz Prylinsky. Lancet neo-Gothic arches are attached around the building. The capitals of the arcade columns were designed by Jan Matejko. Wooden shops were built along the walls in the lower hall. Today, the exhibition halls of the National Museum of Krakow are located on the top floor.

Numerous shops on the ground floor of the gallery sell a variety of handicrafts and souvenirs: amber and crystal ornaments, carved wooden figurines, boxes and necklaces, dolls in national costumes, Wawel dragons of all kinds and shapes. However, the gallery is not only commercial, and Sukennice successfully combines both meanings of the word - on the second floor of the building are the exhibition halls of the National Museum of Krakow. The use of cloth rows thus began in 1879, and they became the first national museum in Poland.

Today, the Cloth Halls continue to fulfill their main purpose - on the ground floor there are shopping arcades and small shops where you can find goods for every taste. Mostly here are products made of amber, leather and fur, as well as a variety of souvenirs. Souvenir advice - if you like something, do not rush to buy - move a little further from the tourist epicenter and you can buy the same product for an order of magnitude cheaper.
