Father Bernatk Footbridge

Kładka Ojca Bernatka
Poland, Krakow
Pedestrian bridge in the form of a steel arch, 145 meters long, built over the Vistula River in 2010 on the site of the former Podgórze Bridge. It is named after the monk Laetus Bernatka, who at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries contributed to the construction of the Bonifratrov hospital in Krakow. The bridge connects two urban areas - Kazimierz and Podgórze. Immediately after its inauguration, Father Bernatka Bridge instantly became a local landmark. It was especially loved by the newlyweds, who leave symbolic locks of love on the railing of the bridge. It is worth noting that the width of the bridge is three meters, and the foundation and supports of the already mentioned Podguzhsky bridge served as the basis for the construction. In addition to the convenience for pedestrians, there are also bike paths.

The pedestrian bridge across the Vistula connects the Pidguze and Kazimierz districts. It was built in 2009-2010 by Professor Andrzej Getter. Cyclists can also walk on the bridge. The name of the bridge is named after the monk of the Order of Bonifratri Laetus Bernatko, the initiator of the construction of the Bonifratri Hospital. The bridge is very decorated with 9 sculptures by Jerzy Kendzora, which are suspended on ropes and form a composition "Between heaven and water". From the wind and the movement of pedestrians, the sculptures sway, but confidently balance on the verge of a seemingly impossible state.
