The first Romanesque church on this site was built in the XI or first half of the XII century and belonged to the Benedictines, as evidenced by the bull of Pope Gregory IX in 1229. In 1467 the church was transferred to the Cracow Academy. Later the building was dismantled and a Gothic church was built in its place. In 1655, during the Swedish invasion, it was looted and burned.
In 1677-1684 a new baroque church was built. Sculptures of Saints Peter and Paul are installed in the niches of the first floor. Modern interiors date back to the second half of the 18th century. At the beginning of the twentieth century, a significant reconstruction of the church was carried out according to the project of architect Oleksandr Biborsky.
