The wooden church was built in the 14th century. In the first half of the 15th century, after a fire, a Gothic church was built by order of King Wladyslaw Jagiello. The current church was built after the demolition of the Gothic at the expense of the Krakow Academy in 1689-1703 according to the design of Tillman de Gameren. This is one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in Poland - a three-nave basilica, covered with a cylindrical ceiling with lunettes and a dome. On both sides of the facade of the tower, which are topped with late Baroque helmets designed by Father Sebastian Serakowski. The interior of the temple is decorated with beautiful sculptural and architectural decor of Balthazar Fontana, as well as the picturesque decor of King Dankwart.

In the main altar is a picture of St. Anna, the work of Jerzy Eleuther Semiginovsky (1699-1703); on the sides of the sculpture of Saints Stanislaus and Wojciech (B. Fontana, 1701). In the church there is a mausoleum of St.
Jan Kantsky, the patron saint of the Jagiellonian University, was canonized in 1767. The altar was made by Balthazar Fontana in 1695-1703.

To the right of the main entrance is a memorial plaque stating that on June 8.1997, Pope John Paul II met with Polish scholars here to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the Jagiellonian University's Faculty of Theology and prayed at the relics of Sts. Jan Kantsky.

St. Anne's Street, where the church stands, is quite narrow, and even it is difficult to photograph it in full.
