Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka

Poland, Krakow
The current Catholic church in the Art Nouveau style, located in the central part of Krakow. The religious building was built in the 1930s according to the design of the Polish architect Vaclav Kryzhanovsky. The Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka is inextricably linked with Karol Wojtyla, the future Pope John Paul II, for whom this church was the first parish. It was here that on November 3, 1946, he held his first public mass. On this occasion, a memorial plaque was installed on the facade. The nave of the church is made in the form of a Latin cross; an openwork bell tower 45 meters high rises above its intersection with the transept. The current stained-glass windows and mosaics of the Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka were installed in the 1980s.
