Church of St. Andrew

Koscioł św. Andrzeja, Church of St. Andrew the First-Called
Poland, Krakow
St. Andrew's Church is one of the oldest buildings in Krakow. It is located in the Old Town of Krakow, next to the Church of Saints Peter and Paul on Grodzka Street. The church was built at the end of the 11th century and, despite several fires and attacks, it still retains its original appearance in the Romanesque architectural style.

The church was built in 1079-1098. The temple has retained its original Romanesque form to this day. It has a defensive character. The church is a two-tower Saxon-type basilica, consisting of a short (single-arched) three-nave building, a transept and a presbytery closed by an apse. The presbytery is separated by a nave lecture hall. Stone walls consist largely of alternating layers of limestone and sandstone. The temple was set on fire several times, but this did not lead to significant changes in appearance (excluding the addition of baroque helmets of the tower and the portal on the north side).
