Piwnica pod Baranami, Basement, Cellar under the Rams
Poland, Krakow
The cellar under the sheep - a cabaret in Krakow, founded on May 26, 1956, is located in the basement of the "Palace under the sheep" on Rynok Square.
The cabaret was created by a group of young artists and actors from Krakow, led by the actor Piotr Skrzyniecki. Among the founders was the composer Krzysztof Penderecki. The author of the scenography and the literary director of the cabaret was Yanina Garytska.
Unlike other cabarets, "The Sheep Cellar" was characterized by an artistic mess, unexpected improvisation. In addition to poetry, the actors recited with serious faces an interview with the daughter-in-law of the First Secretary of the PUWP, a description of the reproduction of snails from an old encyclopedia, the Song of Solomon or the Ballad of the miraculous birth of Bolesław III Wrymouth.
