Church of the Holy Trinity (Ko? Ci ? ? Dominikan? W? Wi? Tej Tr? Jcy), or Dominican Church - one of the largest Gothic basilicas in Krakow. The church belongs to the Dominican Order, which was founded in the early thirteenth century by St. Dominic and was very orthodox, enjoyed the trust of the Pope and held in his hands the Inquisition.
The current church building on this site was preceded by a wooden church, also dedicated to the Holy Trinity. And after the Dominicans came to the city at the invitation of the Bishop of Cracow in 1222 (probably after that the authority of the bishop in the city grew due to the Inquisition), the history of the Church of the Holy Trinity began to develop much more dynamically. And the bishop moved his chair to St. Mary's Church.
In fact, the Dominican Church of the Holy Trinity was built in the second half of the XIII century. After several reconstructions until the middle of the 15th century, it turned into a magnificent Gothic building, which we see today.
Several funeral chapels have been added to the church, which are themselves outstanding works of Baroque and Renaissance art with luxurious decoration. The Mannerite chapel of the Myszkowski family in the first niche of the southern nave and the baroque chapel of the Zbaraski family on the western side of the northern nave stand out.
One of the most interesting chapels of the church is the chapel of St. Jacek - the holy Dominican of the first half of the XIII century. The chapel is located on the second floor. It was built in the fifteenth century and then rebuilt in the eighteenth century. In front of the chapel on the wall hang two giant paintings by Italian artist Thomas Dolabelli, court artist of the kings of the Vaz dynasty. These are the paintings "The Miracle at Cana of Galilee" and "The Last Supper".
