green gate

Brama Zielona, Grünes Tor
Poland, Gdansk
The Green Gate is a historical and architectural landmark of the 16th century in Gdansk, Poland. Once the building was painted green, hence the name. Two fellow architects worked on its external appearance: Hans Kremer and Renier Hollandsky. The architecture of the castle-gate was created in the style of Dutch mannerism, the early baroque of that era. Today the building houses the building of the National Museum of Gdansk.

The Green Gate in Gdansk is located at the beginning of the main historical street called the Royal Route. Once upon a time, they were the first gates through which guests who arrived by water entered the city. Built in 1564-568 as the city residence of the Polish kings. Four passages are made in the front part of the building, and the layout of the building gives the impression that this is a Castle! Despite their appointment, the Polish kings never stopped at the Green Gate, with the exception of Maria Louise (February 11-20.
