Right in the center of Gdansk (Main Town) on Coal Targ, a fortress wall dating back to the 14th century has been preserved. It is to it that the Straw Tower adjoins - a historical, octagonal brick defensive tower 12 meters high. The name comes from the original straw roof, later replaced by tiles. The thickness of the walls at the base of the tower reaches 4 meters. The tower could be used as a redoubt capable of a long defense and also served as a gunpowder tower. It adjoins Velikaya Zbroevna (Arsenal) - there is also a special passage.
