Kosciol sw. Mikołaja, Church of St. Nicholas
Poland, Gdansk
Church of St. Nicholas - the oldest church in the city of Gdansk. It was founded in the 12th century and was originally built of wood. Then, after the transfer of the church by Prince Sventopelek to the Dominican Order in 1227, it was rebuilt from stone in the Gothic style. Inside the building is a baroque altar.

The Church of St. Nicholas is known for being one of the few churches that was not damaged during the Second World War.

This is the oldest temple in the city (12th century). Why is it dedicated specifically to St. Nicholas? Everything is simple here. St. Nicholas is considered the patron saint of fishermen and sailors, who at that time inhabited the territory of present-day Gdansk. By the way, this Gothic building was the only one that was not destroyed during the Second World War. Free admission. Address: Swietojanska 72
