The defensive towers built at the beginning of the 16th century are the remains of the city's fortifications. These are two squat towers of different thickness and height, which are interconnected by an arched ceiling that turns them into gates.
Which are called: Tray gates, or Brama Stongevna. These towers are often called "Churns" in guidebooks. Moreover, in Polish, each of the towers has its own name. The larger one is called Stongvoy, and the smaller one is called Stongevka. Stongva is decorated with a composition of coats of arms, which is often visited by tour groups.
At the beginning of the 17th century, Brama Stongevna fell into disrepair and required immediate repairs, which were carried out. In 1813, the arch between the towers was destroyed by Napoleonic troops. The gate was also damaged during the Second World War: one of the towers burned out from the inside. However, now the Tray Gate is one of the most interesting monuments of Gdansk.
The area of the building is 400 m? . Since 1972, the gate has been used by the Creative Cooperative of Artists of Polish Artists ARPO, which purchased the object in the 90s. In 2012 the gate was sold.
