Hansken Fountain
Norway, Oslo
The monument to the glove, located on Christiania Square (Market Square) in Oslo, was opened in 1997. The author is the Norwegian sculptor Venke Gulbrandsen. According to legend, King Christian IV of Norway pointed with his glove to the place on the map where the new city was to be located, which had previously burned down several times due to the fact that most of the buildings were wooden. According to his decree, new buildings should be built only of stone.

The monument-fountain "Glove" located in its very center is dedicated to the history of the appearance of Christiania Square. After the fire of 1624, when the city once again burned to the ground, King Christian determined the place for rebuilding the city by simply pointing his finger at the map a little away from the conflagration. The fountain was installed in the 70s of the last century. The author is the Norwegian artist Wenke Gulbrandsen. Address: Christiania Torv
