The Akershus castle complex was built at the end of the 13th century to protect the coastal borders of Oslo. The castle-fortress is one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Norway. The luxuriously decorated interiors of the castle halls, designed in the Renaissance style, amaze with an abundance of original elements of furniture and decor.
Currently, within the walls of the fortress there are several museums, one of which is dedicated to military operations during the Second World War.
