Shipping Museum
Scheepvaartmuseum, Het Scheepvaart Museum, The National Maritime Museum
Netherlands, Amsterdam
Founded in 1973, the Scheepvaartmuseum has collected all the most interesting information about the history of navigation not only in Holland, but throughout Europe. The museum is located in the former building of the Admiratley Arsenal. Its exposition includes 11 exhibitions dedicated to the history of navigation: from the Golden Age in the history of Amsterdam, as a significant port, to the present. Here are valuable maritime artifacts from different eras, an impressive collection of paintings on the marine theme, ship models, a separate whaling history hall, a cinema hall, as well as various interactive installations. Very clearly demonstrates the living conditions of the sailors of the period of the West India Company, a copy of an old ship moored next to the museum.
