Stedelek Museum

Stedelijk Museum, Municipal Museum Amsterdam
Netherlands, Amsterdam
The Amsterdam City Museum is an art museum founded in Amsterdam in 1895 as a museum of the history of the city. The Neo-Renaissance building originally displayed furniture, coins, silverware, decorations and furnishings from old Amsterdam houses. in addition, visitors could get acquainted with the collection of weapons and the exposition of an old pharmacy. In 1920-1940, part of the museum's funds was transferred to other museum institutions. At the same time, a collection of modern Dutch and French art was created. Since 1930, the museum has kept an extensive collection of van Gogh's works, which moved to its own building in 1972. Only by the beginning of the 1970s did the museum's exposition leave the last items of historical residential furnishings, and the museum began to act in a new capacity - the first museum of modern art in Amsterdam.
The City Museum presents all the famous areas of contemporary art. This includes classical modernism (Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, Wassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall), art groups "Style" (Pit Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg, Gerrit Rietveld) and COBRA. Kazimir Malevich is represented by 29 works. The collection of the City Museum includes German expressionists, American pop art, video art (Baek Nam Joon, Bruce Nauman), Arte Povera and other contemporary artists.

There are museums of modern art in many places. But in Amsterdam there is not only a large museum with an impressive collection, but also jambs for its perception. I advise you to go twice, once smoky, the second time fresh. For the same money, you actually see two museums. But do not overdo it, and do not run very fast through the exposure, otherwise you will sleep. The museum has an impressive store. And although museum stores are usually not very interesting, but in this we are well stocked with gifts and souvenirs.
