Canals of Amsterdam

Canals of Amsterdam
Netherlands, Amsterdam
Hundreds of kilometers of canals, more than 1500 bridges and about 90 islands have allowed Amsterdam to receive the title of "Venice of the North". The city has four main canals: Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. The Singel has existed since 1428 as a moat that ran along the western border of the city, the other three were dug in the 17th century, which is called the golden age of the Netherlands. Then residential buildings and multi-storey warehouses were built on them. These canals form four concentric semicircles encircling the city. The Amsterdam canal system is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The "Venice of the North" is often referred to as Amsterdam. And all thanks to the Amsterdam canals. To call this system of channels directly a "point" of interest is difficult. This "point" is a system of several hundred kilometers, including more than 1.500 bridges and 90 islands. But if you sit in a cozy boat and make a trip around this “point”, you will not only be able to get to know the city itself, but also just have fun. It is not for nothing that UNESCO has listed the Amsterdam canal system as a World Heritage Site.

Amsterdam is a city on the water, so it is simply impossible to visit here and not ride along its canals! The two largest excursion companies of the city https://www. canal. nl/ and http://www. blueboat. nl/ offers cruises for every taste and budget - day or night, with or without lunch, and also lasting from one to three hours. I swam the canals as part of a group bus tour program. The audio guide was not much in demand, more just looked out the windows and enjoyed the views of Amsterdam from the water.

I advise you to ride along the canals on a pleasure boat "Canal bus". We had this tour. We liked. Near some sights the boat stopped while the story lasted. The tour was not led by a living person, but was an audio recording.
