The Rijksmuseum is an art museum founded in 1808 by the brother of Napoleon I, King Louis Bonaparte of Holland. Opened to the public in 1815. The new building was built in 1877-1885 by the architect Peter Kuipers. Parts of the exposition are located in other museums.

The museum has an art collection (paintings, sculptures and decorative arts, Asian art), a historical collection (archaeological artifacts, paintings, sculptures, clothes) and a collection of drawings, prints and photographs. The art collection is based on numerous works by Dutch masters of the 15th-19th centuries.

Amsterdam… Of course, I immediately recall the stories of who and how they tried weed in coffee shops, then the conversation flows to a discussion of the red light district, and then there is already “work in committees and commissions”? But there is still a lot to tell about Amsterdam, and most importantly, to see it there. Now about the Rijksmuseum, aka the State Museum or the Art Museum in Amsterdam. And there is something to talk about. Let's start with dry numbers - more than two million visitors visit the museum every year! This figure is already impressive in itself, even before you get to the museum itself.

I went to the museum mainly because of Rembrandt. Homework and go. Pleasantly pleased with the presence of an audio guide in Russian. My child (under 18 years old) got in for free (there must be a copy of the document with the date of birth). The museum is not small hours 4 - 5 will be spent. Even if we consider ourselves adults, we still remain children in our hearts, so don't miss the famous dollhouses.
