Gallery of the Civil Guard
Civic Guards Gallery, Schuttersgalerij, Free Citizens Gallery
Netherlands, Amsterdam
The Civil Guard Gallery is one of the most unusual and popular museums in Amsterdam. The exposition of the museum is located practically on the street in the alley between the houses, protected only by a thin glass roof. The works of Dutch masters of painting of the 17th century are hung right on the walls of houses. Here are: group portraits of prominent officers of the civil guard who fought for the independence of Holland, ceremonial portraits of noble Dutch with their families, made in the best tradition of the Golden Age. Some works of the exhibition belong to the brush of Rembrandt.
