Lake of the Pregnant Maiden
Lake of the Pregnant maiden, Tasik Dayang Bunting
Malaysia, Langkawi
There are many other islands around Langkawi. In the center of one of them, Pulau Dayang Bunting, there is a picturesque azure lake surrounded by rocks and immersed in the greenery of the virgin jungle. The island is quite large (more than 13 kilometers long) and throughout its territory there is a geopark, which, together with the lake, can be explored for more than one day.
According to legend, the forbidden love of the beautiful princess Sari and the commoner Mat Teja resulted in the birth of a child. However, the baby could not survive and died 7 days later. The nymphs took his body, and after that the child turned into a white crocodile. The lake became his home, which he began to protect from evil forces. The princess blessed the waters of the lake and asked the higher powers to help any woman who wants to have a baby. The water became fresh and remains so to this day. Locals believe that a sip of water from the lake helps even a barren woman get pregnant.
