The rice village of Laman Padi is only 10 minutes drive from the airport and in close proximity to the popular beach resorts of the island. Established in June 1999, the Rice Museum, with a total area of about 5.5 hectares, was conceived with the aim of promoting eco-tourism in the rural areas of Langkawi. The village serves as a showcase for the history, tradition and development of the rice industry in Malaysia. The exhibits of the museum, in addition to the rice of various varieties, are numerous photographs and illustrations, tools and mechanisms. In the museum, visitors can themselves participate in the process of cultivation and processing of rice.
There is a souvenir shop, a garden of medicinal herbs and an exhibition dedicated to the cultivation of padi rice. The on-site restaurant serves a variety of rice dishes.
