The National Museum in Kuala Lumpur is located on a hilltop on the Jalan Traverse. The architecture of the National Museum is a magnificent mixture of traditional Malay style and modern lines. The 3-storey museum building is 109.7 meters long, 15.1 meters wide and 37.6 meters high at the central point. The facade of the museum is decorated with large Italian mosaics.
Opened on August 31, 1963, the museum today presents the richest collection of the cultural and historical heritage of the Malays. The 4 main halls present exhibits from the field of ethnology and natural history, works of art reflecting the culture and life of the Malays: paintings by local artists, costumes, weapons, musical instruments, ceramics.
