Opened in 1998, the Museum of Islamic Art is housed in a bright, Iranian-tiled, turquoise-domed building in the eastern section of
Lake Gardens. It contains about seven thousand exhibits from all over the Islamic world - from miniature jewelry and manuscript qurans of the 13th century to household items and scale models of the most famous mosques. The building has four levels: the top two houses museum expositions, while the lower floors are occupied by a bookstore, a restaurant and a large gift shop. Here are unique collections of cold and firearms, jewelry, ancient coins, fabrics, clothes and shoes, wood products, ceramic and metal utensils. The Kuala Lumpur Museum of Islamic Art also has an excellent collection of calligraphy.
