Chinese Tian Hou Temple
Thean Hou Temple, Goddess of Mercy Temple, Tian Hou Temple, Wang Tian Hou
Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur
Tian Hou Temple (built in the 1980s) is the largest four-tiered Chinese temple in Malaysia and is dedicated to Tian Hou, Mother of Heaven, patroness of fishermen and sailors. Wang Tian Hou combines all the most common religious movements in China - Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. The temple is decorated in Chinese national style: red paper lanterns, phoenixes, golden dragons.
In the main building of the temple complex, there are a dining room, administrative premises, a banquet hall and souvenir shops on three tiers, and a prayer hall is located on the fourth. In it, to the right of the entrance is the altar of the goddess of mercy, in the center - to the Heavenly mistress (Tian Hou), and to the left - to the goddess of the seas. On the territory of the temple there is a small garden with Chinese medicinal herbs and spices, not far from which there is a wishing wall and a pond where hundreds of turtles live. Sculptures of animals from the Eastern calendar are also installed here. Visitors to the temple are waiting for pleasant entertainment that promises prosperity in the future: a fortune-telling mechanism, a “wall of desires” and a “path of happiness”. Since the temple of the Goddess of Mercy is located on a hill, it offers a breathtaking view of Kuala Lumpur.
