The Frida Kahlo House Museum is dedicated to the life and work of the famous Mexican artist (1907-1954). Frida lived in this house with her husband,
Diego Rivera, also a famous artist. The couple were known for their communist beliefs, so in 1937-1939
Leo Trotsky and his wife lived with them until they moved to another house. Since childhood, Frida had been ill with polio, and at the age of 18 she had a terrible car accident. Frida had to fight the disease all her life - she visited the operating table 35 times. For months the girl was bedridden and then she asked her father for a brush and paints. A special stretcher was made for Frida to write lying down. She began with self-portraits, looking into a large mirror attached to the bed.
The museum contains paintings, personal belongings and books of the artist, a collection of pre-Columbian statues made no later than the 15th century.
