Ruins of El Meco
El Meco Archaeological Site, Castillo Castle
Mexico, Cancun
El Meco is an archaeological site with the ruins of a Mayan settlement built between the 13th and 16th centuries, located 5 km north of Cancun, next to the Puerto Juarez ferry terminal. At the center of the excavation, 650 meters long and 200 meters wide, is a well-preserved pyramid known as the "Castillo Castle" and which is clearly visible from the sea. The temple at the top of the "Castillo Castle" was built by the Maya Indians in honor of the rain god Chaak. In addition to the pyramid, the ruins of 13 more buildings are located here.
