Temuge Presidential Palace
Theemuge Presidential Palace
Maldives, Male
The Temuge Presidential Palace is considered one of the main attractions in the Maldivian capital and is a must-see on every tour of Male.
This palace was not the original location of the president of the country. The Maldives became a republic in 1953, and the residence of the president at first was the Sultan's Palace Muliage. The new Temuge Presidential Palace was built in 1994 as a replacement for the old palace and is the official residence of the president and his office. Meetings of honored guests are held in the Temuge Presidential Palace, as well as a reception of the local population on various issues. The president does not live in the palace itself; a villa was built on a separate island for the permanent residence of the president and his family. The architecture and decoration of the presidential palace embody a harmonious combination of local traditions and the achievements of modern technology. The Temuge Presidential Palace is located in the main shopping area in its western part.
