Hukuru Misky is an incomparable example of the craftsmanship of the Maldivian artisans, which was erected in 1856 by order of Sultan Ibrahim Iskander I and adorns Medusiyarai Magu Street. On the coral walls of the mosque, it is impossible to notice the junctions of the blocks, and the interior is decorated with carved teak and sandalwood panels with quotations from the Koran and ornaments.
The mosque was erected on the site of the pagan temple of the sun god, and the prayer hall is oriented to the east, and in order to observe sacred dogmas, the faithful turn their faces to the corner of the hall. Officially, only Muslims can enter here, and vacationers must obtain permission from the Office of Religious Affairs before the tour.
