Colored Earth Chamarel

Seven Colored Sands, Terres des Sept Couleurs, Seven Colored Earth
Mauritius, Mauritius
One of the unusual tourist attractions of the island of Mauritius are the multi-colored sand dunes in its southwest, near the village of Chamarel. The dunes of Chamarel consist of sands of 7 different colors: red, purple, brown, purple, green, blue and yellow, which is why they are also called "Seven-colored sands".
The multi-colored lands were formed as a result of the cooling of volcanic rocks, which occurred at different temperatures, and the layers of different colors have fairly clear boundaries and do not mix in a downpour or strong wind. In souvenir test tubes, the sand also does not mix, and when the test tube is shaken, after a while, it is again divided into 7 colors.
The Colored Land is owned by a local sugarcane company that has been organizing tours of the dunes for a small fee since the mid-1960s. The best time for the tour is early morning or sunset, when the multi-colored layers look the most spectacular and bright. They look at the sands from a wooden platform on a hill, the path along the dunes is fenced with a wooden fence - it is forbidden to walk on colored earth so as not to damage its fragile upper layers. Huge century-old turtles crawling near the fence, living here. On the way to the dunes of Chamarel, you can visit a picturesque waterfall falling from a cliff 100 meters high.

We traveled a lot, saw a lot ...But there is a small island in the ocean - Mauritius, as we were told, it is of volcanic origin. And then this wonder of the world was formed in the village of Chamarel with the same name. Why a miracle? At different times of the day and depending on the weather, the colors change, shimmering from bright purple to yellow. I was very impressed, it's a pity you can't touch it, everything is fenced. So what about our tourists? they will smash everything))) In the suburbs, a family of huge turtles lives nearby.
