Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, SSR Botanical Garden, Pamplemousses Botanical Garden
Mauritius, Mauritius
Botanical Garden in the district of Pamplemousses on about. Mauritius is the oldest botanical garden in the country, with an area of 37 hectares, named after the fighter for the independence of Mauritius and its first prime minister, Sivusagur Ramgoolam. The garden was founded in 1770 by the French plant grower Pierre Poivre, who imported plant seeds and tree seedlings from all over the world.
From 1849, the British horticulturist James Duncan set about creating a nursery with tropical trees, especially palm trees, which occupy a large part of the garden and numbering 85 species. In the center of the garden-park there is a pond with giant Victoria water lilies brought from South America, the leaves of which reach a diameter of up to 2 meters.
The garden has a separate alley with trees that were planted by famous people who visited here in different years, for example, Indira Gandhi. The main entrance to the garden is decorated with wrought iron gates of the 19th century, with coats of arms and crowns on each of the pillars, a model of an old manual machine for processing sugar cane has been installed on the territory, a two-story Château De Mont-Plaisir of 1839 and a picturesque stone bridge of Sighs over the Citron River have been preserved. Next to the chateau there is a zoo corner where turtles, deer and goats live. A small exhibition with a collection of photographs is arranged in the building itself.

The park is huge and ancient, all neatly planted with all sorts of tropical plants from different parts of the globe. There is an alley with tablets and various trees that were planted by the great people of this world, who visited the island in this park in different years. Good idea! ) Among the park, you can see an ancient machine used to process sugar cane by hand. You can just walk along the paths inhaling oxygen and enjoy nature. We were brought here by a miracle that we really wanted to see - a water lily, with giant leaves and beautiful flowers, called the Amazonian Victoria.
