grand harbor
Il-Port il-Kbir, Grand Harbor, Grand Harbor
Malta, Valletta
The Grand Harbor is the largest harbor in Malta. The Phoenicians used it as a harbor in ancient times, and later it was significantly improved, docks, marinas and fortifications appeared.
In the northwest, the harbor closes the Ssebarras peninsula, on which part of Valletta and its suburbs of Florina are located. This peninsula also shares Grand Harbor with Marsaxett Harbor. The southeastern shore of the harbor is formed by many bays and capes, from which four small streams flow into the harbor. Also on this side are the cities of Cospicua, Birgu and Singea. The majority of Malta's population lives within a three kilometer radius of the Grand Harbour, making the area the most densely populated in the country, as well as one of the most densely populated in Europe.
