The collection of the Archaeological Museum is located in the building of the Provencal Compound. Once it was the residence of knight recruits from Provence. The building was built in 1574 by Girolamo Cassar. The pediment of the magnificent facade of the courtyard building is decorated with Doric and Ionic columns.
The most interesting exhibits of the Archaeological Museum are the Neolithic statues - Venus of Malta and the Sleeping Woman. Here you can also see ancient flint tools, human skulls, necklaces, figurines, vases and pots, funerary urns, etc. In 2000, halls with expositions dedicated to the Bronze Age, Punic, Antique, Arabic and Medieval periods were opened.
