Palace of the Grand Master
Grandmaster's Palace, Palazz tal-Gran Mastru, il-Palazz
Malta, Valletta
The Palace of the Grand Master is a palace in the city of La Valletta, which is the official residence of the President and the Parliament of the country. It is located in the center of the fortress of La Valleta, facing the Palace Square with its northwestern facade, and Republic Street with its main western facade.
Built of limestone, the palace is rectangular, 97 meters long and 83 meters wide, making it the largest building in the city. The appearance of the palace is ascetic and made in the style of the 16th century, except for the wooden balconies on the western and northern sides, built instead of the iron ones in 1741, and baroque entrances. Inside the palace there are two courtyards - the courtyard of Prince Alfred, which has access to the street of the Old Theater, and the courtyard of Neptune, decorated with a fountain.
