Basilica of St. George
St. George Basilica, Church of St. George
Malta, Gozo
Basilica of St. George was built in 1673, but was badly damaged during the earthquake of 1693. Later it was carefully restored and expanded. The church is sometimes referred to as the "golden basilica" because of its gold-decorated interior. The pride of the church is a bronze canopy imitating the masterpiece of Lorenzo Bernini in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
