Basilica of Our Lady of Ta'Pinu
National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu
Malta, Gozo
The Basilica of the Virgin Mary Ta'Pinu is a Catholic church located on the island of Gozo near the village of Arb. Before the 20th century, a 16th-century chapel stood on the site of the basilica. The construction of the modern church began in 1920, the consecration - in 1931. The following year, Pope Pius XI raised this church to the rank of a basilica.
The church, built in Romanesque style, rises in the middle of the countryside of the island of Gozo, surrounded by the hills of Gammar and Gordana. The church building is an example of the technical use of local stone. Inside it is a large number of different paintings carved from stone, which, together with mosaics, adorn the altarpieces and friezes of the nave.
