Monastery Rezevici
Rezevichi Manastir, Rezevichi Monastery
Montenegro, Petrovac
The Rezevici monastery is located above the bay of Perasic Do. According to legend, near the monastery there was a pillar on which they put a cup of wine for parishioners. King Stefan the First Crowned himself drank from this cup.
The monastery complex consists of several churches, bell towers, cells and outbuildings. The larger church dedicated to the Holy Trinity was built between 1770-1814 and its architecture is reminiscent of early Serbian churches. The iconostasis was created by Mark Gregovich, an icon painter from Petrovach. The small Assumption Church was built by Stefan the First Crowned in the 13th century. On the site of the Trinity Church there used to be a small temple built by Tsar Dushan and dedicated to St. Stephen.
The monastery was destroyed several times, but it suffered the most damage from Italian troops in 1941, when it was burned and looted.
