This island is located opposite the city of Perast and is called the island of Gospa od Shkrpela (“Madonna on the Reef”, “Mother of God on the Rock”). This is a man-made island with an interesting history. Once upon a time, an icon of the Mother of God was found here on the reef, which later helped many people to recover from illnesses. In gratitude, people built a church here, sinking more than 100 ships on this site. Each ship passing by had to throw a stone to the bottom. After 200 years, people were able to build a church on this site. The church is small and looks like a toy against the backdrop of huge mountains. Currently, it is not only a functioning temple, but also a treasury. There is one unique canvas embroidered with hair. It was embroidered by a young girl of 25 years old, finishing with gray hair in anticipation of her betrothed from the sea. When the picture was embroidered, the girl went blind. This is such a sad story...
So, the conclusion: a very picturesque little island with an interesting history, which I recommend to visit, and it is better before noon, when it is not so crowded here.
