Old town of Budva

Stari Grad, The Old Town
Montenegro, Budva
Most of the historical monuments are concentrated in the Old Town of Budva. Located on a peninsula that protrudes sharply into the sea, it is a corner of typical Venetian and Mediterranean architecture. Despite the devastating effects of the 1979 earthquake, by 1987 the Old City had been completely restored. The old city is surrounded by a powerful fortress wall and pierced by narrow winding streets that lead to the city citadel, where the museum is now located.

Near the citadel there are three ancient churches:
Church of St. John (erected in the 7th century, with subsequent restructuring) with a bell tower - the architectural dominant of the city.
The Church of St. Mary "in Punta" (erected in 840) is the only surviving building from the monastery that once existed here.
The Church of the Holy Trinity (built in 1804) is an Orthodox church built in a typical Byzantine style.

I can’t help but share my impressions of the old town of Budva, maybe someone will not like the old buildings, narrow streets, to this day something interesting is found there and carefully preserved. This is probably a childhood dream to be an archaeologist, and this era is the most beloved. We walked around the old city in the evenings when there were no excursions. Everything is done to make everyone feel comfortable for those who love history and who like to sit in a cafe or even live in a hotel on the territory of the old city, it is very romantic and everything is very harmonious.

The old town of Budva can certainly be called one of the main attractions. Walking along the narrow stone streets is a pleasure for me. In this place you can find places to shop, eat, drink a cocktail, watch street theater performances and just enjoy the atmosphere. You can also walk along the fortress wall, though the entrance is either paid or free, it doesn’t happen year after year. If you're lucky, you can get on a free tour (I was 4 years ago), it was very interesting and I learned a lot of new things.

I have fond memories of walking around the old city. It is worth spending 2 euros to see the Old Town from the height of the Citadel tower, visit the maritime museum and be sure to sit in a small open restaurant overlooking the Budva Bay and the island of Sveti Nikola. The streets in the old town, as expected, are narrow, rocky, with many shops and cafes. The cafe-restaurant "Mozart" was very memorable, you can easily find it. Treat yourself to desserts and specialty Mozart coffee there. Prices are not cheap, but it is very tasty!.

Old Budva is charming. Narrow streets, stone houses, tiled roofs and many, many...cats! : ) To see Budva in all its glory, I advise you to climb the fortress wall of the town. This "entertainment" is free and aesthetically pleasing - the whole of Budva in front of you will be visible at a glance. I wish you all good photos! ; )
