The activities of the Archaeological Museum of Budva began in 1962, when the first ancient excavations of the city were discovered. Later, after the earthquake in 1979, exceptionally important and rich discoveries were made. The museum's collection has replenished with 2500 exhibits from ancient burials.
The ethnographic collection of the museum reflects the cultural and historical features of the development of Montenegro as a part of the unique Mediterranean region associated with Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Slavic and other cultures. The archaeological collection is represented by exhibits from the 5th century BC to the Middle Ages. The ethnographic collection covers the period from the 18th to the early 20th centuries.
