Cathedral of Monaco
Monaco Cathedral, Saint Nicholas Cathedral (Monaco), Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Monaco
Monaco, Monaco
The Catholic Cathedral - the chair of the archbishop and the tomb of the princes of Monaco - was built in the Romanesque style in 1875 on the site of the old parish church of St. Nicholas. The walls inside the cathedral are decorated with paintings by famous painters Francois and Louis Brea, written in 1500-1535. The white Carrara marble altar and pulpit, made in 1500 and left over from the old church, is a true architectural marvel. The windows are decorated with wonderful stained-glass windows with scenes from the life of Christ and Mary. The cathedral hosts festive liturgies during church holidays, the National Holiday of the Principality of Monaco, celebrated on November 19, baptismal rites and wedding ceremonies
