Madrassah Ben Youssef is the most famous and prestigious medieval school for the study of the Koran in Morocco. The school was founded in the 14th century during the reign of the Almoravid dynasty. The territory of the madrasah includes a mosque, an educational complex and cells where students lived. The building has been preserved almost in its original form. Currently, a museum functions in the premises of the complex.
