Mol Mangalsali

Mangalsalskaya dam, Eastern pier
Latvia, Riga
The Mangalsala pier goes into the sea from the Mangalsala peninsula, 14 km from Riga. Mole Mangalsaly is also called "Eastern", because opposite, 600 meters across the mouth of the Daugava, is the so-called. "Western pier" with the Daugavgriva lighthouse. Through the moles, ships pass from the Baltic Sea to the port of Riga, they protect the mouth of the river from drifting with silt and sand.
The eastern pier was built under the patronage of the Russian Tsar Alexander II in the period 1850 - 1861, as a granite boulder reminds of: "The Sovereign Emperor Alexander II deigned to inspect the dam on May 27, 1856." The second boulder recalls the visit to the pier by Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich in 1860. At the end of the pier there is a new Mangalsal lighthouse 7 meters high. The old lighthouse, as an engineering monument of the 19th century, is installed on the banks of the City Canal in Riga.
In the early 2000s, the dam was repaired and a new road was laid along it, so the Mangalsal dam is popular with tourists and Rigans as a place for walking in the invigorating sea air. Dozens of fishing enthusiasts gather here on weekends.

The eastern pier was built between 1850 and 1861, under the patronage of the Russian Tsar Alexander II, and its length is 2240 meters. On the right, the pier is washed by the Daugava River, on the left, the bay. At the end of the pier there is a 7-meter lighthouse. The lights are 11.5 meters above sea level and the visibility of the lights is 4 nautical miles. This is an excellent place for walking, contemplation and creation.
