Very early departure, around 6 am pick up from the hotel. It is advised to start without breakfast, so as not to get sick. But we could not resist, and took a sandwich with us. Looking ahead, I’ll say that I saw them again, after they had eaten them.

Different-sized boats all start from the same port of Mirissa, from here it is closest to the “point”. The port is full of life! It smells of fresh fish and boat diesels. Even in the early morning in Sri Lanka it is warm. The neighboring ship is packed to the brim with Chinese. They make noise, laugh and swear at each other like children. There are a lot of them on our boat too.

The way to the "point" takes about two hours, and the whole way shakes as it should. The wind is blowing and the waves are splashing. By the middle of the road, few people on the ship managed without bags. Half of the Chinese did not see any whales or dolphins at all, only lying on the decks and running for new bags.

The guys-organizers are great, they try to show the maximum.
They are forbidden to use echo locators, so they move on a whim. Catching up - waiting - catching up - waiting again. When the tail emerges from the water, it takes seconds, and it quickly disappears under the water. But the whole boat rejoices! Whales inhale once every 6-10 minutes. Sometimes the passengers notice before the guides and shout in their own language. I kept thinking why it was so, and then once I saw it first and also shouted in my own Russian. If you are on the wrong board, then most likely you will only be in time for circles on the water. That’s why there are no whales in the pictures, because you don’t have time to throw up the camera.

Sorry whales. Our four boats pursued them for more than an hour. I don't know what's going on here during high season.

But we saw them! And a tail and a hump, and not once, but several. An impression for a lifetime.
