Bayon Temple, located in the ancient city of Angkor Thom, is famous for its huge and enigmatic faces carved out of stone. This Buddhist temple complex is a three-tiered "temple-mountain" and was built at the beginning of the 12th century. during the reign of King Jayavarman VII. Around the central ruined tower of the temple there are about 50 smaller towers, each of which has four smiling human faces. It is noteworthy that, depending on the incidence of light, these faces change their facial expressions and may appear evil and kind. The Bayon Temple is decorated with many beautiful bas-reliefs that depict the daily life of the ancient Khmer kingdom: religious rituals, military battles and domestic scenes. This quaint temple will give a lot of impressions and will cause real delight among its visitors.
