Archaeological Museum of Aqaba
Aqaba Archaeological Museum
Jordan, Aqaba
There is a house in Aqaba where, after the First World War, Al-Sharif Hussein bin Ali, the leader of the Great Arab Revolt and great-grandfather of His Majesty King Abdullah II, lived for six months. Today, his residence houses the local archaeological museum, opened to visitors in 1990.
This small museum is dedicated to the history of these places. On display are collections of weapons, copper and silver bowls, coffee pots and coffee grinders, as well as trays for mansaf (traditional Jordanian lamb and rice). Here you can also find many ceramic products and coins from the heyday of Islam. The fact that the city has long been a trading center is confirmed by the antiquities from Iraq, Ethiopia, Egypt and China present in the exposition.
