Lido Islands

Lido, Ledo Islands
Italy, Venice
The Lido is a chain of sandy islands separating the Lagoon of Venice from the Adriatic. The main island of the archipelago (Lido), located just 20 minutes by motorboat from the city, is famous for its beaches. Every year in September, the Venice Film Festival takes place on the Lido.

The island is divided into 3 parts. The northern part of the island is home to the film festival, as well as the Grand Hotel des Bains, the casino and the Grand Hotel Excelsior. Malamocco, in the center, is the only township of approximately 20,000 people. It was also home to the Doge of Venice. At the southern tip is Fort San Nicolò and a golf club. At least half of the island on the Adriatic side consists of sandy beaches, most of which belong to various hotels.

We decided to take a break from sightseeing. After lunch, we boarded a vaporetto and waved at the Lido. From the pier we walked along the central street (Santa Maria Elisabetta), stared at the hotels, and went to the beach. I remember paying for cabanas to change clothes, and the beach was free. Bought back. The most pleasant memories remained, of some such a cozy, resort town.

At the end of May 12 we were leaving Venice for an Adriatic cruise and were thinking of going to the beach after the cruise on the islands near Venice. We chose a hotel in Malamocco near Venice on the Lido di Venezia, the hotel turned out to be inexpensive and modern, with a swimming pool, a football field and volleyball courts, the cottages were under the shade of Italian pines. From the port we took the monorail to Piazza Roma. which is the center of traffic interchanges in Venice. All bus routes reach here, you can get here by car and leave it in a huge covered garage (it is located next to the monorail station), but further - only vaporetto (river buses) along the canals of Venice, or on foot along the bridges over the canals.
