Piazza del Popolo

Piazza del Popolo, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza del Popolo, People's Square
Italy, Rome
Piazza del Popolo ("People's Square") is the most famous square in Rome. It acquired its present form in 1822, when Giuseppe Valadier connected the square with the Napoleonic stairs to the slope of Picino hill. In the center of Piazza del Popolo is the obelisk of Flaminia, in the southern part between the corners of Corso and Babuino streets are the twin churches of Santa Maria in Monte Santo and Santa Maria dei Miracoli. And in the northern part of the square stands the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo.

In the center of the square stands the Flaminius obelisk (from the era of Ramses II) transferred from the Circus Maximus. Two semicircles of the square are decorated with fountains: Neptune and two tritons, and the second is the Goddess Roma. Be sure to visit this square. This is easy to do, as the metro station approaches it.
