Pantheon

Pantheon
Italy, Rome
The Pantheon is the "temple of all the gods" in Rome, a monument of centric-domed architecture of the heyday of the architecture of Ancient Rome, built in the 2nd century AD. e. under Emperor Hadrian on the site of the previous Pantheon, built two centuries before by Mark Vipsanius Agrippa. The Latin inscription on the pediment reads: "M. AGRIPPA L F COS TERTIUM FECIT", which in translation sounds like: "Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, elected consul for the third time, erected this." It is a great engineering achievement of antiquity. Located in Piazza della Rotonda.

Must visit. I advise you to read "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown before the trip. It will be interesting to see how the action took place in the book. There is a lot of information about the Pantheon, so if you don’t have a tour, prepare yourself.

The Pantheon is one of the oldest buildings in Rome. Its dome, one of the largest in the world, rests only on the annular wall. There is a wide opening in the dome (a symbol of the heavenly eye), during the day the statues of the Roman gods were alternately illuminated. Within the walls of the Pantheon, there are monumental tombs of famous Italians, including the artist Raphael (to the left of the entrance), the first king of united Italy, Victor Emmanuel II, and his successor, Umberto I. On the square in front of the building rises a beautiful fountain with an ancient Egyptian obelisk, built by Pope Clement XI.
