The ruined bridge flaunts in the middle of the river next to the Palatino bridge. Ponte Rotto is the oldest bridge across the Tiber. In its place, there was originally a wooden bridge, which was sometimes destroyed during wars and attacks on Rome. And then, when the security of the city was more or less ensured, a stone bridge was built, which was nevertheless rebuilt several times after the floods. But it finally collapsed after a severe flood in 1598, and only one of the 5 arches remained. The water in this part of the tiber is very fast and muddy, and debris, branches and silt collect on the base of the bridge.→
